Orange Photo Week

You can't miss the Orange Photo week, a whole series of events fully dedicated to help the SL photographers community to share and collaborate!. The Orange Photo Week will take place from Monday 23rd to Friday 27th.

One of the great time of this week will be the Orange Island & Koinup Photo Contest Award Ceremony.

Around 50 photographers from Koinup took part in the Orange Island Photoweek Contest. Both teams are very impressed by the work that have been done. We saw some great talents expressing themselves trough the theme 'one Second of Reality'.

Already it is very hard to say who will be the winner, the jury will have a lot of troubles to choose the only one who will have the chance to participate to an exhibition at La Cantine in Paris.

Winners of the "Jury Prize" will be picked by a jury composed of Margherita Balzerani, curator at "Le Palais de Tokyo", Paris contemporary art museum, Marco Manray, renowned SL photographer and author of the book "Io, reporter in Second Life", and Vint Falken, award-winning SL photographer and distinguished Koinup member.

Meet us on Friday 27th on the Lower Plaza of Orange Island at 12.00am SLT. Edo Jay (Koinup, co-founder and tecnological director also known as Edoardo Turelli, you may know is also simply as EDO) and Natty Foggarty (Orange Island) will officially announce the winners of both Jury and Community Prize.

You will have the chance to have a talk with them and with the winners and discover the story behind the winning pictures. It will be a good occasion to meet your friends in person too.

Because this event is the event of the Photo community in SL, we will try to break a record. Join us for a family picture that'll make history!

Play Videos in Second Life

If you are wondering if it is possible to play Koinup Videos in SL, the answer it totally yes! You can! In order to Play your machinima inworld, you have to follow our tutorial

But, basically there are two main steps, you have to follow here:

1) Import your videos from Youtube, more info here

2) Use the Stream Link, we provided with you! More info, here


Remember the Koinup Guidelines, in order to using Koinup for streaming your machinima in Second Life

a) Import and then stream only videos created by You!

b) Import and then stream only videos related to your virtual life (machinima)

c) Import and then stream only videos that meet the other Koinup community guidelines

Send to Friends, Koinup Items!

We have improved the Send to Friends feature! Now, you can import your friends list from Hotmail, Gmail, Yahoo, Aol and send to the selected friends email a Koinup item!

The Feature is powered by the new exciting Gigya Wildlife Software!
We are experimenting these awesome social features made possible by Gigya and soon all of you will see other social features, that will amazingly improve your way to share your koinup works, with your friends and all over the world!


In order to use the new Send to Friends feature:
Click on Send to friends link (you can find the link beside each Koinup item, for example here), select your email provider, and then select the email address of your friends that you wanna notify about that Koinup work

If your email provider is not supported, you can still insert manually the email address of the friend you wanna send the work!

If you are a Wordpress user, you can install the Koinup Widget on your Wordpress Blog!
Its easy, we made a simply storyboard in order to explain it! Have a look, now!

On the contrary, if you are Blogger user, you have two ways to install a Koinup widget on your blog:
1) You can use the MediaRss platform! Follow this tutorial to learn how!

SL Portrait Contest, Announcement!

The selection process was very difficult because of the many entries and their overall very good quality. After discussing and refining an initial list of candidates, the judges: Anna Tretiak, Therese Carfagno and Bella March reached a decision.

"Anticipation" by Jaxi - The pose and expressiveness of the model are superb. The composition is enticing, making the viewer wonder what's beyond the window and what the woman's thoughts may be.

"Beo with feather mask" by Lano - It is very uncommon to see such beautiful male pictures with this sharpness, light, colour and emotion.

"Paper flowers" by DahniElla - So fresh and different from the usual static, gaze-into-the-camera shots that you often find in SL. You can smell the summer in this photo!

Each of the three winners will receive a fully-functional PhotoTools Pro package, valued in L$ 3750 and including lifetime updates.

Sharing your Techniques! Create Tutorials on Koinup!

There's a lot of amazing artworks, pictures and machinima on Koinup! Its time to share with friends all the secrets about your creations! Create Tutorials, using the Koinup Storyboard!

How do you create your machinima? How did you make your recent masterpieces? Which are the secrets of Photoshop, Gimp, Sony Vegas that you want to share with your friends? How do you take high res pics in SL? how do you capture a scene on the screen?

We launch a call to actions for tutorials! We will post the tutorials here on the blog and link them on the homepage! So, lets start to creating them! Sharing your ideas, tips and advice with your friends!

How to upload a tutorial on Koinup? Its easy! Upload them as storyboards

All Prize winners can choose any style, size or colour combination from those on display in the EML-Entertainments Store. (All the Screen/Players on the ground floor in the Orange area, have the latest code and integral menu system)

All the systems sold by EML-Entertainments come with an editable playlist, so you can add your own media urls, including movies, radio stations, music, and 2d pictures that are QuickTime compatible. Each Screen/Player comes already installed with a selection of Movie, Shopping, News and Entertainment channels, although you are free to edit/delete those.

The prize giving will be held at EML-Entertainments Store. The winners are requested to contact: Pixie Tungl
in order to get an appointment and arrange the consign of the prize!

Orange Island Photo Week Contest

Certainly once, you have felt surrounded with reality in SL... a true moment of emotion, a real expression on a friendly face....Read more: the Orange Island Photo Week Contest .......

The theme of the contest is "One second of reality". The aim of the contest is to capture an instant of reality, and have viewers believe the photo was taken in RL. The challenge here is to share with the community what for a second seemed real to you. We hope you will go beyond still-life shots and try to show us emotions are real, no matter where it is happening.

Submissions will start on June 9th and will finish on June 23rd. Winners will be announced on Friday June 27.

"We know the subject request the artists a lot of attention. But with the SL5B coming soon, we want to show SL is a world where we can be proud to live. We hope people will see this competition as a way to show to the real world that SL worth the (virtual) trip! Sometimes words can't explains feelings. That's why we want to best works to be displayed in the Real World"

There will be two winners. Both will have the chance to participate to an exhibition in a RL gallery. La Cantine is a creative, experimental and innovative space dedicated to digital technologies, located in the center of Paris. What best present can you do to an SL artist than bringing his/her work to the real life. "We chose La Cantine because it is a gallery where digital arts and web innovation are honored."

The winner of the “Jury Prize” will receive his/her work printed and framed in high quality format and the winner of the “Community Prize”, the coolest work in Koinup, will receive a complete package from Never 30 including a N30 studio, poses kit, lights… and more.

Winners of the “Jury Prize” will be picked by a contest jury composed by Margharita Balzerani (curator at “Le Palais de Tokyo”, Paris, contemporary art museum), Marco Manray (photographer SL and author of the book "IO, REPORTER IN SECOND LIFE") and Vint Falken (photographer SL and awarded Koinup member).

Winning photos and a selection of runners up, will be published on the Orange Island and Koinup Blogs. So Stay tuned, for the announcement.

Winning photos will also be displayed on Orange Island (Orange 1, 195/134/30) for a minimum of three weeks.
Winners will be announced on this page, on the Koinup blog and on the Orange Island website on June 27th.

With the Orange Island Photoweek, Orange Island confirms its wish to help artistic creativity through sharing and collaboration.
