Koinup's Cream of the Crop - SL Italian Community

Buona giornata! Koinup's Cream of the Crop column will be featuring fabulous communities and events within Koinup every week. Groups are really great places to connect other users with similar interests, share and view works with a theme, run contests, garner more exposure for your piece, or foster a community with a discussion board. There are a great number of groups on Koinup now, but there is always room for more so feel free to start your own.

For the premier column, I've chosen SL Italian Community. It's not a surprise that a country so rich in art provides a talented community of artists. With 444 works and 61 members at the time of this writing this group has really shown enormous talent. I grabbed a few highlights to show you what this group is up to.

Tempura - Autumn by SLnnItalyPhoto By: SLnnItaly

Tempura- Autumn by SLnnItaly is very impressionist looking. I love the artist's perspective and also talent in enhancing this piece to make it appear more as a painting. You can almost feel the oils on a canvas.

Magnificent by Marty86 Photo By: Marty86

Marty86’s U2 - Magnicent shown here is really pleasing on the eye as well and expresses strong romantic emotions. In particular, I love the perspective of this piece and the manipulation to give it a more ethereal feeling.

Silence by Ilary Photo By: Ilary

This last piece I wanted to feature is named Silence by Ilary. It is a bit more macabre than the others. I love Ilary’s sense of negative and positive space and the juxtaposition of the headstone with the sun sends the viewer a really unique message.

Ok...that is my group of the week. Click here and check SL Italian Community further. There is a ton of really quality work.

If you have an event going on inside your groups, please feel free to PM fiona_haworth on Koinup...you never know you might be picked for Koinup's Cream of the Crop.

Koinup readers meet Soror Nishi

A couple of days ago, we launched a call to write for the Koinup Blog. In a few days, we got about 10 applications. One of the most interested profiles we had the chance to review is from Soror Nishi. Soror is an artist, designer and well appreciated blogger.

Member of the NPIRL group (Koinup and NPIRL partnered some months ago to launch the NPIRL Safaris ), Soror Nishi will be in charge for the Koinup blog column: OMNIBUS

OMNIBUS is the art column of the Koinup Blog. Each week, Soror will cover the most artistic things happening on Koinup, linking together works created in Second Life with pieces made in Warcraft, or IMVU and all the other virtual worlds. The first editorial (OMNIBUS hello edition) is live. Stay tuned for the next stories

Sunday, July 26, 2009

OMNIBUS ...hello edition...:)))

Hi... well, I’ve been asked to share a few thoughts with you on the stuff I like on Koinup and I hope to be doing that on a weekly basis.
It’s gonna be some of the coolest stuff I see each week and I know its a bit time-consuming for a lot of you to work your way through all the new uploads ( and past stuff too) to find things that you really like... hopefully I can save you some time if this is the case ....
....and I am thinking of doing stuff with general themes too..so..one week I will do the coolest action photos...one week romantic stuff...and so on, well...thats the idea anyway..:)) so that it’s not just my taste but all sorts of styles and themes....

and some weeks I will probably just ramble a bit ...

This one from the very talented Magggg, taken in SL, I believe, starts off my little selection this week. Maggg does some very romantic stuff and I will, no doubt, be showing more of her stuff later. You can see the full size version here, its called Plug in Baby.
I’m in a rather space-girl phase at the moment myself so it appeals to my current mindset. ‘Chimera’ being an amalgam of stuff, which we all are...

RockerFaerie is, I’m sure, as well known to you all as Magggg and this one I love for its simplicity...it’s very easy to get too complicated with the images we make but this one just cuts through it all and the sixties image is striking and memorable.

Its called Miss Jinx and is presumably of the lady of that name in Second Life... the original is here... again... I am pretty sure I’ll be talking more about Rockerfaerie in due course...

This is Terokkar at Night, a shot from World of Warcraft by another very talented and productive photographer .... Morgana le Fay.. (great name..:)) and the large size lets you get into that evening light in this great piece of landscaping. There are a few of her shots of Terokkar that are well worth looking at.

I really liked this one too.. by Starla Grey.. taken in the Sims, its just ooozing with that 50’s screen star feel and is classic cheesecake... makes me smile..:)) again...the original is here and its called Adriana.

This photo is by CookieMia16 and from IMVU, just so we get around the Metaverse a bit..:)) and I chose it this week cos it's a bit edgy which makes a change from the usual rather soft stuff that normally comes out of IMVU. The original 'deteriorate' is here....

So, hope that that gives you some new stuff to look round and .....because a know-it-all never learns anything, I am very happy to look at stuff some of you may want to send to me...my email is sorornishi@mac.com...or just comment below.

soror Nishi :)))

Meet Me in the Metaverse - Pathfinder

Since this is a new column here at the Koinup blog, I'm going to take a few moments and introduce it properly. Meet Me in the Metaverse is a new weekly column to highlight Koinup's new feature - Places. Currently this is can be found only on the Second Life World homepage. The places project is our way of collecting slurls making a collection of all the photographs taken of a particular sim.

So...how does one go about adding SL Places? The steps are really simple. During the upload process, include the slurl in the Add SLurl box on the Describe These Items page. Automagically, your photograph gets added to existing places or you get credited as the founder of a new place. YAY!!

Pathfinder - The 7 Elements Photo By: Icarus_Robbiani

Without further ado...Meet Me in the Metaverse presents Pathfinder. Pathfinder is two sims, the Highlands and Lowlands. Besides just being an amazing environment, the Pathfinder sims will eventually be a journey to enlightenment. While the journey adventure activities are still in the development stage, the builds seem complete and ready for discovery.

Exploring these two sims is a real pleasure as it was designed for easy navigation yet still pleasing on the optics. The builder’s goal was to provide a place of inspiration for its visitors. And that they have done. Complete with amazing vistas, rich environmental sounds, tons of places to sit and ponder or take some stellar pictures, these sims are definitely worth the visit.

PathfinderPhoto By: fiona_haworth

One of the things I loved best about my time spent here was what appeared to be carefully planned terraforming. Elevations themselves expressed the ascendance from the Lowlands into the Highlands. Each level has small sidesteps off the beaten path to while away some hours.

The Pathfinder sims are brought to you by the Institute of Human Development. In the near future the journey activities will be brought online. These activities will be rich in video content and give the visiting public an opportunity to expand their minds in an environment that is sure to stun them with the pure beauty alone. Photo Session. Review of your works

This week, Zephyru Zapedzki will offer you a mentor review. Join us today, Thursday 16th of July at 11.00am SLT in the Orange Island Photo Gallery and get your work appraised by a color specialist.

Zeph is a painter in RL and deeply passionated about colors theory. This is the final session about our intense colours class. You are pleased to come and ask him to give a friendly review of your use of colours in your work.

In order to practise what we learnt, last Thursday, Zeph asked us to prepare some works related to the main aspects of using colors:

* Color combinations : you can use Color Scheme to play with the color combinations. Look at these posts if you need a refresher: first session transcript and second transcript
* World environment editor: for that, you’d be better put your graphic preferences to High. Please look at the transcript.
* Prim lights: please look at the transcript.
* Post-processing with Paint.net.

Photo Sessions members are asked to send their work inworld to Natty Foggarty or Zephyry Zapedzki in copy mode. A selection will then be exhibited on the Orange Island Photo Gallery.
