Virtual World Twinity Celebrates Even More Virtual London

Rocking the Metaverse partner and mirror virtual world Twinity is celebrating the growth of Virtual London this week by showcasing creative expression from art exhibits to live music gigs.   New sites include the Big Ben, the London Eye and many other historical builds, extending what was the city central to the east and south.

Betty Tureaud and Juliet3d Quiznet.

Well, it's always a nice surprise to find yourself at a good party, and last night I was taken to see a great show, with great music, so I was chuffed. (pleased).

Aliz tped me into an installation by Betty Tureaud at the Nomanisan Straits Art Gallery.

Betty's project is called "The Dead Art Planet".. of which she says...
"You are coming to a lonely abandoned planet, devoid of life. Here you can interact with the Sphere and decide how you want to dispaly and rezz the artists work on the planet surface. One click, a simple display; more clicks and the art patterns become more complex...
It's up to the visitors to choose."

New Year, new stuff.

Well, the New Year brings with it new things to see, obviously, and some new people, or rather, people who are new to me. They may have been around for a while and slipped under the radar, but, whatever, they are artists who's work I will be keeping an eye out for in the coming year(s).

This smartly dressed person is Scottius Polke, whose piece, Vector Beehive I enjoyed a lot at UWA's December show/competition. It is pictured below.

My Koinup Favs 2009

Well, any selection of "best of.." is going to be a purely personal collection of things that have touched something in me and obviously tell more about me than the artists. In fact that is all that really glues them together, they may not even all be uploaded in 2009, but I blogged them in this last year and they have stayed with me as images.
This one still amuses me, its called "Cynical nurses can be scary" by siq101, taken in IMVU which is another thing in its favour for me.

Pirats

Now, it's very easy to miss stuff because you are in the wrong time zone, and while there are few Europeans who won't have heard of Pirats I thought I would give a very quick intro to this french-based artists' group.

They have an amazing range of work on show and have openings of new work, often twice a week.

If an experienced artist takes the realm of the emotions as her canvas we would be well advised to stand back and enjoy...... the emotions arising from the work are of our own making, SaveMe Oh simply makes little mirrors
..... and gets banned from sims.

It is always foolish to under-estimate someone.

so....the most controversial artist in Second Life is surely worth a chat.....

Alizarin Goldflake

Now, as we know, some art has pretensions of superiority and the collusion of gallery owner and art critic, called The Art World, often justifies the Marxist theory that “the professions are a conspiracy against the people”.

In SL there is a tendency for the distinction between art and craft to break down. Artist, craftsman, and builder have to merge really in order to make a great piece of art.
Alizarin Goldflake falls into this category and her work shows her intelligence and craftsmanship to such a degree that it is ‘available’ to all. Now, that does not mean that there is a ‘dumbing down’, that it is so simple any fool will enjoy it, it actually comes from a great skill, namely the ability to combine the complex and the simple in an unselfconscious way.






Aliz is holding an open studio and her latest piece Acquarella is the centrepiece of her gallery...here... go, it’s a must see.

Mark Linden and I

Well, nobody said when I started this job that I couldn't use cheap journalistic tricks to catch your eye, dear reader. So... about Mark and me...well...we both think that the University of Western Australia is one of the most interesting things happening on the art scene today. Mark popped over last week, some think after having read my Koinup post on UWA, and Twittered (or Twitted, possibly Twat?) his visit. Now, there's no way to know if this is true or not, but flimsy speculation, rumour and gossip are good enough for me.

So, if Mark reads Koinup, does that make me like "By Royal Appointment" like the tea bags the Queen uses? (Such esoteric ponderings, no wonder it's becoming the best blog around.)

There’s nothing more frustrating than going to see a show, waiting ten minutes for the thing to rezz and then finding out there’s loads of dodgy photos of roses or cats which would be more at home in Google Images than wasting both prims and my valuable time in some poorly designed virtual gallery. So....I hope to be able to point you, whether you are a noob or veteran in the direction of some tasty bits and pieces.
